A Winter Celebration Full of Energy.

Winter weddings often come with questions around light, timing, and weather, but this New Year’s Eve wedding at the Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan is proof that winter celebrations can be full of warmth, energy, and incredible moments. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was electric.

The couple were incredibly laid-back and down-to-earth, focused on one thing only: enjoying the day with their families and friends and bringing in the New Year surrounded by the people they love. That relaxed mindset set the tone for the entire celebration.

Why New Year’s Eve Weddings Work So Well

There’s something special about a wedding on the last day of the year. Guests arrive already in great form, excited to celebrate not just the couple, but the countdown to midnight as well. At this wedding, the energy from the guests was unreal; everyone was fully present, enjoying every moment, and ready for a proper celebration.

One of the smartest decisions the couple made was choosing a 12 pm ceremony. For winter weddings, this is a huge advantage. An earlier ceremony allows plenty of time to capture natural light for photos and video, without any stress or rushing later in the day.

Winter Light & Timing – A Big Win

A common worry for couples planning winter weddings is light, but on this day, the winter light was clear, warm, and incredibly flattering. It created a beautiful glow that worked perfectly for both photography and videography.

Our advice for winter weddings is always the same: timing matters more than the season. With an earlier ceremony, you can enjoy your day knowing there’s enough daylight to capture everything naturally, while still leaving plenty of time to relax and celebrate indoors afterwards.

Our Relaxed Photo & Video Approach

As a photo and video team and a couple ourselves, we approach every wedding in a calm, unobtrusive way. Couples often tell us that working with a couple makes them feel instantly more relaxed, and that was definitely the case here.

During the drinks reception, we focused on blending into the background. Being “invisible” allows us to capture genuine, candid moments of guests laughing, chatting, and enjoying themselves without ever feeling like a camera is on them. These are often the moments couples love most when they look back at their photos and film.

Standout Moments from the Day

One of our favourite parts of this wedding had to be the dancefloor. The groom is a professional jiving teacher, so expectations were high and he absolutely delivered. Capturing the energy, movement, and reactions worked brilliantly in both photo and video and really reflected the fun, celebratory feel of the day.

Another standout moment was the sparkler tunnel created by all the guests. It looked incredible visually and added such a magical feel to the evening. Moments like this are perfect examples of why combining photo and video works so well, the still images are stunning, while the movement and atmosphere come to life beautifully on film.
